It’s your face after all!

MAKEUP HAS BEEN A HUGE PART OF MY LIFE SO WHEN IT COMES TO BEING A CLIENT FOR A BOUDOIR SESSION HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO TELL YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR LOOK!

REMEMBER THAT EVEN THOUGH YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST IS A PROFESSIONAL, LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOU FEEL BEAUTIFUL IN!
SOMETIMES AS A MAKEUP ARTIST I FIND THE STRUGGLE OF COMMUNICATION WITH MY CLIENT. ALTHOUGH I HAVE WORKED WITH FACES OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES, AGES AND TEXTURES I STILL DON’T KNOW HOW YOU WEAR YOUR MAKEUP ON THE EVERY DAY! SO PLEASE TELL YOUR ARTIST THINGS YOU LOVE SO THEY CAN INCORPORATE THAT WITH YOUR CUSTOM LOOK. DON’T BE AFRAID TO TELL THEM WHAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE IN, WE WILL FOR SURE ALWAYS TRY AND LISTEN AND TAKE IT INTO ACCOUNT!

MENTION COLORS TO YOUR ARTIST THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO INCORPORATE, COLOR IS EVERYTHING. A MAKEUP ARTIST SHOULD BE ABLE TO READ IF YOU ARE MORE COOL TONE OR WARM TONE BUT IT WILL ALSO PLAY A FACTOR WHEN YOU TELL THEM WHAT YOU ARE WEARING SO COLORS DON’T CLASH!

DRAMA IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT, THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO WEAR YOUR MAKEUP... IT’S HOW YOU LIKE IT!!

LET’S TALK SPECIFICS!!

Lashes: lashes can be an amazing add on! Not only will they make you look like a big eyed goddess but they also bring a bolder look to the images! Lashes can range from short, long, full or natural! Individual lashes are also fantastic for a more natural look to make it appear as if you just woke up like that! Decide on what lashes you like based off of what you feel comfortable in and your eye shape. A more hooded eye calls for a wispier lash, a bigger set eye can have more room for full volume and length!

Foundation: Your makeup artist should have your shade on hand! It’s important to match you neck as opposed to your face. It’s very common they’re different colors! To make things cohesive, I always match the neck. Also, try not to use foundations with oil or spf because they can have flashbacks and cause a ghost colored film over your face! Yikes!! Be sure to ask your makeup artist to moisturize you if you are more on the dry side and/or powder you if you are more on the oily side!! Shine in the wrong places can make your skin look very textured.

Eyes and lips: I personally love wearing Amy Whinehouse sized wings but that’s what makes ME feel sexy! Try to show pictures to your artist of how dramatic you want your eyeshadow and what makes you feel comfy! You could be wearing a whimsical and ethereal outfit and want more shimmers and light earth tones with a red lip... or an edgy black outfit with a Smokey eye and neutral lip! You could be either gal and that’s okay! Just make sure you know what you want the vibe of the makeup to be like. Also, feel free to maybe just a little out of your comfort zone! Play around with some more drama maybe you wouldn’t normally play with!! Just be honest with your artist... it’s makeup, not a tattoo!! It can be changed and altered to your liking!

I’ve been doing makeup for the last 5 years on sets, in stores and to myself! I’ve learned so much by using my craft every day. And it’s been such an amazing journey meeting so many people and hearing stories as well as making women and men feel beautiful! I find that the makeup artist and client connection is so important because we spend a good amount of time very close getting to know one another and it can be vulnerable to allow someone to work on your face! It’s your face after all! So always have that trust with your artist and try to look up their work prior and see if they’re fit for you! Everyone is different and it’s so important to find someone you connect with!
