"I'm Here to Make a Statement"

image-asset (1).jpeg

S.M. Walked into the studio with a bag full of books, jewelry and multiple outfits and says to me,

"I'M HERE TO MAKE A STATEMENT"

If you know me personally you know that this sentence is a gold mine for my creative abilities! My eyes lit up and I immediately started telling her about the passion projects that I had in mind for myself that admittedly, I would never get around to doing as self portraits. It turned out that S.M. and I had plenty in common and the shoot commenced!

This is an idea I've had in my mind for the longest time.

The symbolism of enlightening your mind.

When I began my photography career I was simultaneously working on my self love journey. Which is a perfect reason why I was led into boudoir photography. When S.M. came to me with her ideas I knew she would be the perfect subject for this photo!

I asked S.M. to write her own version of the messages she portrayed in her images. She couldn't have said it any more beautifully!

"The more I thought about my purpose in doing this, the more I realized that it wasn't just for me. There are extremely important and controversial themes at play in our world today and I decided I would use this personal experience to share some of my own ideals with whomever I could reach. I used specific jewelry and books to demonstrate my passion for knowledge, peace, environmental issues and political opinions. I definitely felt empowered before, during and after the shoot and I just hoped to embody that empowerment without judgment or doubt. At the end of the day, we all create confidence in different ways and I feel truly inspired to be the canvas for another person's artwork through photography, tattoos, etc. I never would have imagined that I would find such a beautifully fun way to express myself, but I'm so grateful that I did. Make art, not war, and share your (self) love with the world!"
